One of my longest builds to date. Getting the folded over wing thing to work has been.....troublesome....:-). I have had to put a manual TRIM (VTOL control) to combat the nose heaviness (must be a byproduct of the wing design). So just move the VTOL slider to down before you start and your golden.
More than ever I love your feedback / if you can see why its naturally nose heavy/ anything! All the best

11.3k ahappyape@srduval thanks alot and thanks for looking into a fix! I will definitely carry on developing. If I make a substantial improvement I may post. All the best9.6 years ago

1,711 srduvalThis is a lot of fun to fly. To fix the nose down behavior, If you add some additional lift surface near the two front inlets that helps. It doesn't quite fit with the aesthetic value of this jet, so stick with the vtol "trim" and you'll be good to go9.6 years ago

38.8k hypnotoad@ahappyape LOl, yea its a big task, but one I feel i have to maintain, hence why I can be a bit vague / short at times. Dude, I am more honored than anything else that you would use ANY of the parts I do. I claim no exclusivity to them, and to have you playing around with them is ever so cool. I would leave this exactly the way it is, given the incredible maneuverability the nose down is a moot point really, just an annoyance for the perfectionist, but I have to be honest, for me it doesn't at all detract from the marvel you have created, as its just so darn clever! . It a conundrum to be sure, but as said the sheer awesomeness way, WAY outweighs any misgivings. Very much looking forward to whats's next from your good self.9.6 years ago

11.3k ahappyape@hypnotoad first off thanks so much for taking the time to put such a detailed comment. For you simple planes must be near enough a full time job replying to everyone - so thanks again. COM/COL wise. Ive moved it everywhere you can think of. When I first built the plane it was right at the front - so I thought that was why it was nose heavy. I moved it back and back and back again (hence the huge rear control wings) and tbh it didn't make much difference. I left it where it was as it was the best for agility. I then thought it was the way the front wings where angled - ie pointing downwards. Again changed all that with no changes ? So put it back. It seems that "sideways " mounted wings Dont have a lot of emphasis compared to normally mounted. (Hope that makes sense). Anyways in the end I had to cheat and but the manual trim control in. I will definitely still take a look at this - but not for a bit. This one really cooked my suede! I also have to make a massive thanks as well. I did borrow the structural wing with control surface thing - The XML edit on that is actually easy. Also saw you discussing about negative weight fuel tanks - so slung them in too. As for the community - there are some very helpful fellows out there and its good company to keep. I think that most people are happy to see an interesting idea - be it from a newbie or yourself. Its good to encourage people - after all it means more planes / ideas for me! All the best buddy9.6 years ago

38.8k hypnotoad@ahappyape also I thought I would say thank you. You have become a truly great part of this place. I often go around rating (i so rarely have time to leave useful feedback nowadays) and I frequently see you posting a good rating and very useful suggestions / tips / feedback, this place really would be what it is if it were not for you, not "people like you" I mean YOU. Please do continue to do what you do as its very much not lost on me, and I am always inspired by your approach to others and of course your own designs. All the very best buddy, keep it real :)9.6 years ago

38.8k hypnotoadUtterly exquisite design work as always good sir, you are a true artisan. I had a good go with this one, and I do really appreciate all of the work you put into this, the shapes constructed are beautiful! having flown it around it does suffer from a nose down, but nothing that the pitch cant overcome with total ease. Not wanting to leave it there I took it apart, and really I couldn't find a good enough reason for it, all of the surfaces are the correct symmetry. I do notice the COM and COL are a good way back, I would suggest that this may be a part of the reason, knowing that sounds counter intuitive, I added some flat bottom wings to the very front to provide lift, this work and she was beautifully stable... BUT whenever I pitched up sharply she got stuck in an endless loop the loop? My suggestion is that this is somewhat of a phantom nose down, but because the COM is very central trying to correct it will only cause a huge issue. SO....... i would try (as I haven't yet) moving the COM as far towards the nose as possible, and then compensating with adding lift there, and I would recon that would do it....9.6 years ago
