Pantherkampwagen II, 18th Armored Div.
"Perhaps one of the most curious of all events in this war was when we cleared out a roadblock. Engineers blasted apart a landslide blocking the road, and discovered a very new tank, perhaps a variant of the Artemis. To our surprise, the crew was stuck inside. Being human, we helped them out. They may have been our enemy, but they were certainly glad we pulled them out."
-PFC Sears, 76th Mountain Infantry Battalion, Pilotmario Army.
A variant of the @Hadesrocks HR Pantherkampwagen II in Olympian service. Controls are the same as the original. Press (7) to activate turret controls and turret weapons. Use pitch control to elevate main gun, and roll control for turret traverse. VTOL slider controls forward-back direction, while yaw turns tank.
This machine was a batch of thirty ordered by the Olympian Army, given delays on the Artemis project. However, red tape ensured that these vehicles would arrive when the Artemis project was complete, and the Army decided not to procure more due to similarities to the Artemis in production. For the remaining vehicles, twenty were assigned to the 18th Armored Division "In the Shade", stationed in the Pindus Mountains. The remaining 10 were sidelined as spares.
The machine is rearmed with a 128mm gun from the Artemis. While completely inferior to the hypersonic cannon it originally mounted, the 128mm gun had ammunition readily available, as to decrease the extra logistical burden on the unit. The missiles were removed, as seen as superfluous, though the mines were retained.
They saw combat alongside the 15,000-strong 11th Mountain Infantry Division in the Battle for Olympus, where they were vastly outnumbered by the Pilotmario 3rd Corps, with 80,000 troops from Paternia, a similarly mountainous region in the Pilotmario Republic, as well as 185 Avenger II tanks and 55 Victoria II tanks, supported by three attack wings amounting to 40 Pummeler Mk 2 and 20 Trojan attack helicopters. All but this example was lost in the fighting, buried under a landslide during the hasty Olympian retreat after heavy losses, and abandoned. Surprisingly, the crew survived the landslide and were able to be rescued two days later by the Pilotmario Army. This vehicle has since been taken back to the Pilotmario War Museum, where it is mistakenly labeled "Artemis Mk 4".
Curiously, a wrecked Pantherkampwagen II was found in the rubble in Athens, in its original configuration. It was believed this vehicle was a smuggled machine, since it is known that the missiles were removed on all machines received by the Olympian Army. Interviews with POWs and Pilotmario Army troops nearby indicated this vehicle saw combat, and was very effective, reportedly able to punch through a Victoria II's frontal armor at ranges of 8 miles. No tests could be done to confirm such claims, as the condition of the gun was poor, though it is believed to be as powerful as the 90mm Mk2 Railgun on the Victoria II, and more powerful than anything else on the field.
Interestingly, the Pilotmario Army also evaluated the vehicle. Five were delivered, and while it was found to be a reasonable vehicle, Army High Command was distrustful of the quad independent tracks and felt that its gun was about as powerful as the 90mm Railgun Mk 2, then entering service. Furthermore, HR Incorporated would not let the Pilotmario Army's Rodmantown Tank Production Plant to wholly manufacture it, fearing the rival Barracuda Island Industries, which manages the plant, would copy it and reverse engineer it if given license to produce. All five were returned shortly after tests were complete.
