Challenger IV "Fastest piston powered aircraft"

The fastest piston powered plane in simpleplanes. Starting in the air is highly encouraged. This is aircraft was built around the all new Hybrid X-40 engine, a 32 piston engine driving a contra-rotating propeller putting out the power equivalent to more than 10 small jet engines combined. The plane's sleek design together with the relatively small wings give it the ability to reach more than 500 mph.

This is pretty much the performance I've been working towards for months. But it doesn't end here, the next challenge will be the speed of sound!

Procedure for high performance flight:
Start in the air, or on the ground(Very hard).
Throttle up to 100% (Do it slowly if you're experiencing issues with the propeller spinning in the wrong direction).
Just slide VTOL UP(Not all the way up!!), you should be gaining speed quickly.

I have trouble with highspeed piston engines. When it's in slomo it works perfectly but in normal speed it explodes.

    Got it over Mach 1

@Flightsonic Yeah you beat this plane haha, good job! And thanks

I think I beat your record, I'm not entirely sure though
    Still great work in this!

@Visify I've seen a piston engine where the pistons were rotated very slightly, so they push the crankshaft in the right direction even when the pistons are topped or bottomed out (fully extended, fully retracted).

@BRuthless Engines reversing direction, you can try it for yourself. Would be great if you could solve it.

@Visify what kind of reliability problems? I never had an issue. it can probably be solved. :)

@BRuthless Scaling pistons up causes reliability problems for me though

@Visify That's wrong. If you scale them to double the length they will be exactly the same speed. Increasing the range also increases speed.

@BRuthless Well you can reach a higher rotation speed using 2 pistons per cylinder instead of one, since two pistons at 50% speed will be as fast as one piston at 100%. Pistons at very high speeds become glitchy and so I went with two pistons at low speed for this design.

@Visify Power of pistons shouldn't be a problem. They can output infinite force I believe. They will always hit the set speed, no matter how much resistance you put against them.

@BRuthless I needed more pistons for power. I could just use one piston per cylinder but the plane wouldnt be able to reach 500 mph as far as I know. I havent tested scaling up pistons though so maybe I'm wrong.

Is there a specific reason to use two pistons? You're on Windows, so download FineTuner and scale the pistons to double the length. :)

@MethaManAircraft Of course! All these engines were made for the community to use :)

@Visify ok that's fine! is it still ok for me to public post planes with your engines? I will obviously give credit.

@MethaManAircraft It's hard but I think I know how. I like the challenge. though I can only access my computer in the weekends so youre gonna have to wait another week.

@Visify hey! this is really good but HUGE! just wanted to say you want to make the tail plane bigger because your latest planes stall easily...
Also, I want to start a series of replicas using your engines (frame planes). I have already made a Do 335 and I want to make a P 61 or Ta 154 with radial engines... Is it possible to do that with your permission? I would need a small but powerful radial engine for this (you can maybe shrink pistons with fine tuner and use XML and overload?).

@Colonel1J2R3Wolf Make sure you carefully read the description! If youre having trouble taking off just start in the air!

its incredible how people can make engines using simple mechanism (Ik, its not simple, but with same parts) Amazing!
