Summary

The Dragon MQ-190 Overwatch II is a Paternian multi-role medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle. It was developed as a response to the success and shortcomings to its predecessor, the MQ-151 Overwatch. While the Overwatch was considered a revolutionary improvement, it had its flaws.

The original Overwatch lacked significant punch, and the efficient turboprop didn't have sufficient power to lift heavy ordnance easily. While adequate against lightly-armed irregular units, it was thoroughly unsuited against concentrated regular forces.

Trials with the Paternian Navy found the type underpowered for expanded naval duties it wanted, and the narrow landing gear was considered a liability in potential carrier operations.

Thus, the Overwatch II would be larger aircraft fitted with a more powerful but efficient turbofan. Instead of only four hardpoints, it had nine. Wider-track landing gear and the provision for folding wings were incorporated in the new aircraft.

While it was no revolution, the Overwatch II was a credible successor.
