Cycloidal Propulsion Challenge, Completed!
Winner: Nobody :(
We have had a lot of neat challenges in the past, some for ornithopters, gliders, blimps, gyrocopters, and even just planes; you can count on two hands the amount of cyclocopters or cycloidial aircraft on this site, and most of them are just empty husks of proof-of-concept. The cyclocopter (or cycloidial propulsion in general) is a discouragingly underrated form of flight that just needs a moment to shine, and I'm sure that if we gave this sexy Charlie Foxtrot (clusterf-ck) of a machine a chance, It'll really change the dynamic.
I would encourage you to look it up so I can save a little space explaining, but cycloidal propulsion is functionally much like variable rotary propulsion you see in helicopters or some propellers.
I hope that the above example does a little more than make you dizzy but if you look at the green part, that would be your moveable swashplate similar to the kind you'd find in a helicopter except sideways. This guides the trailing edge of the paddle (or blade) to maintain a specific angle of attack at a specific point in rotation. If I make this any longer I'm afraid I'll start losing people's attention so try the links below!
If you want to read a good article on the cyclocopter swashplate click here
Below are a few SimplePlanes examples;
My Charlie 1 Cyclocopter
Flying Things' Cyclogyro Prototype
Toscio56's Magical Cyclocopter
Your entry must make use of some form of cycloidal propulsion, It can be a cycloidal propeller, cycloidal rotor system, or even a cycloidal boat motor. surprise me. If you don't know what I mean by any of those, here are some photos for example. (excuse the terrible quality)
Since it's complicated and SimplePlanes has trouble with the physics, it doesn't have to actually work, and you are allowed fake it with a couple hidden jets and propellers.
To enter, your craft must either be a successor or it must be tagged in the comments
Submissions will be judged primarily by looks and performance, although the closer it is to actually working, the better the odds. Functional swashplates are preferred.
Competition is open to the 30th, I will extend it if people need the time because this probably won't work without the big contestants
All submissions are upvoted
First Place - 50 Upvotes
Second Place - 35 Upvotes
Third Place - 20 Upvotes
All submissions are welcome, good or bad, even if you don't have the best design, you can still win some type of award worth 2 upvotes, here's the current list of rewards.
-First Submission
-Second Submission
-Third Submission
-Most Submissions That Aren't The Same
-Least Parts
-Worst Effort (I'll only give this to those who try to get it)
-Last submission
More awards will come as appropriate.
Most important Part
Hell yeah, this isn't just about cycloidal propulsion, it's a SimplePlanes holy war. Simpleplanes is starting to go east coast and all jundroos energy seemst to be going to simplerockets, how come they get awesome cockpits and landing gear but not us!? I have a set of demands for jundroo for new parts, and if you want to support them, click here

@WorldWorldtheWar Looking forward!
I'll try to build one
@ErgitheMobilefriendlyf I see exactly the same thing lol, it's a good analogy
@UsualPiooneer Beautifully ugly Isn't it?
