The NI-2 was designed in 1916 as a prototype fighter for the RAF. The officers overseeing the testing were impressed by the aircrafts good speed and manueverability and (for the time) heavy armament. It was the first aircraft to have the armament mounted in the wings. It became the first production aircraft to be made by Noble Industries, with 274 being built.
