X-300
Norman strikes again
The plane we are looking at today is the X-300: Norman’s model 187-4 Sky Boa.
Fitted with the GAU-8 Avenger seven-barreled 30mm rotary cannon found on the A-10, this private venture single engine attacker sought to revolutionize the close air support mission. To the federal government’s horror, three prototypes were constructed throughout the five-year program. Fortunately, the aircraft had so many problems that Norman was forced to shut down the program. Thank God they shut it down.
The first prototype completed a number of test flights, but was destroyed the first time it fired its guns in the air.
The second prototype was sabotaged by rogue elements of the Air Force leadership who were afraid that if the program succeeded the aircraft would be inducted into service.
The third prototype was stripped of parts and then sent nuclear test range and blown to bits.
Disclaimer:
Flight model is messed up because it’s so ugly.
Pitching down will most likely result in a departure from controlled flight.
The wings may break randomly.
Ag1: drogue chute
Ag2: Canopy (useless)
Ag5: Jettison/fire all AAMs
Ag6: jettison the other gun (ammo is stored inside the aircraft and remains after jettisoning)
Ag7: Jettison/fire all AGMs
Yeah it’s basically just an F-16 with a GAU-8
(Make a meme)
