The First World War brought rapid innovation, as well as experimentation, in military aircraft. One such experiment was the triplane, first tried by the British with the Sopwith Triplane, to which the German Empire responded with the Fokker Dreidecker I (Dr.I). The extra wing provided superior agility, which flying ace Werner Voss used to his advantage in taking on 8 British fighters in his last flight. The most infamous pilot of the Dr.I was WWI ace-of-aces Manfred Von Richtofen, nicknamed the “Red Baron,” but Josef Jacobs scored the most kills using the Dr.I. Despite its fearsome reputation bolstered by its pilots, the Fokker Dr.I suffered from lower speed than biplanes and poor roll.

The German Empire was the only operator of the Fokker Dr.I. No genuine Fokker Dr.I’s have survived to the modern day, but accurate flying reproductions have been made. Read more...

Author's Notes
- Fuel is unlimited.
- Has a float carburetor, which means engine will stall under negative G from maneuvering or inverted flight.
- Working rotary engine using variables!
- When taking off, increase power to full and then increase trim to 60%.
- To perform a flat half spin, apply full rudder and elevator. If your nose is getting too high, roll with the spin. If the nose is getting too low, roll opposite the spin. To perform a full 180, you should have at least 140 km/h airspeed.
- Very sensitive to slipping when not level.
