Like its predecessor, the A-86 Swarm Defense Drone, the A-86B is designed to be deployed in large numbers. The A-86B's primary role, however, is a first strike aircraft against hardened target whos defenses have been determined to be too strong to put a pilot and full-cost attack plane immediately at risk. The A-86B strikes well ahead of the main force, appearing to be the sole attack, softening defenses and drawing maintenance, security, and rescue personnel put into the open for the main attack.
