Tiger Moth
At long last, here is my completely new version of the the Tiger Moth, from Miyazaki's 1986 film "Castle in the Sky."
Captained by the infamous pirate Dola and crewed by a motley gang of her large adult sons, the Tiger Moth is a small, unassuming airship. What she lacks in armament she makes up for with surprising maneuverability and a top speed in excess of 100 knots.
Functional bridge controls:
- Pitch is Pitch
- Roll is Yaw + a little Roll
- Yaw is Variable Thrust Maneuvering (when activated)
- Throttle is Throttle (note: auxiliary engines are controlled via the auxiliary throttle on the console to the right of the helm position. Aux throttle is superceded by main throttle - i.e. if aux throttle is at 100% and main throttle is at 50%, aux engines will run at 50%.)
- VTOL is primary wing angle of attack (useful for rapidly climbing and descending, and for trimming the ship in level flight
Note: there is a lever on the console to adjust the internal buoyancy of the ship. Neutral position is slightly heavier than air with the glider attached. 3/4 or above is positive buoyancy.
Glider Controls
- Pitch is Pitch
- Roll is Roll
- Trim is Trim
To launch the glider, use the lever on the right to raise the wing brace. Once the brace is in position overhead, the lever there will extend the wings. Then you're free to flip up the protective cover and push the button that detaches the glider from the main airship. Two notes here: first, flipping up that protective cover also disables all the control inputs except throttle to the main airship so you can fly the glider around freely. If you throttle down to zero the Tiger Moth will just drift slowly upward once it slows down. Second, it is recommended that you detach when the airship is moving at more than 80 knots, to facilitate a clean takeoff. When you want to resume control of the main ship, the big red switch on the console returns control authority to the bridge.
The last version I made - built before the cockpit interior update - had almost 2000 parts, and was barely playable on my laptop; this version has less than 750 parts, and runs smoothly on my years-old Pixel 6. This is a completely new build, with new techniques and a fully functional bridge. I wanted to upload a version with less than 1000 parts that was at least kinda mobile-friendly. The cabins are empty, but a full interior version is coming soon.

Just as I was thinking about rewatching the movie. Excellent as always, the glider works extremely well. If you do add stuff inside the cabins, there better be food in the kitchen.
@LonelySea22 oh right
@MAHADI Porco Rosso
@MrPanzer quality of work beats time

@WhoflerMan show those military bastards what the Dola gang is made of!

@LonelySea22 I've been lied to for my entire life by a falsehood of my own making.
@MrPanzer I'm so sorry to be the bearer of that news 😂
