Loughead PV-7A Octavius
The Loughead PV-7A Octavius is a modern maritime patrol aircraft developed by the Loughead Aircraft Corporation. Designed to be a three seat aircraft, the crew number is relatively small, with only a pilot, co-pilot/engineer, and radar operator/weapons officer. The aircraft has massive range, even with its four thirsty JD7A turbojet engines. These were chosen over turbofans for their relatively small size. Radar is kept in the two pontoons making the main structure of the aircraft. These pontoons were made waterproof and watertight, allowing for an “emergency” landing in the ocean if needed. I say “emergency” with air quotes because the Octavius is fully amphibious. The only requirement is that it has no armaments fitted, due to the placement of the hardpoints. Flight performance is extremely good, maximum speed at low altitude is around 650mph
