It was one of the first successful jet fighters to incorporate swept wings, which allowed it to achieve high transonic speeds. The MiG-15 entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1949 and received the NATO reporting name "Fagot."The MiG-15 saw extensive combat during the Korean War, where it proved to be a formidable opponent for the American F-80 Shooting Star and F-84 Thunderjet fighters. In response to the MiG-15's appearance, the United States Air Force rushed the North American F-86 Sabre to Korea. The Sabre, with its superior performance and maneuverability, was able to hold its own against the MiG-15, leading to some of the most intense aerial combat of the Cold War.The MiG-15 was also exported to many other countries, including China, North Korea, and several Eastern Bloc nations. It served in many air forces around the world and remained in service in some countries until the 1990s.The MiG-15 was a significant milestone in the development of jet fighter aircraft.
