Designed and built by the British Fairley Aircraft Manufacturing Company, the Swordfish attack aircraft was one of the main aircraft used by the Royal Naval Aviation during the Second World War and began operation in 1936. A total of 2392 were produced. The aircraft was dubbed the Stringbag by British Naval Aviation. His outstanding achievements in actual combat were most notably the heavy damage to Italian naval ships at the Battle of Taranto and the sinking of bismarck by torpedoes during the siege of the German battleship Bismarck.
