Mig-17 used in Indonesian Airforce (AURI)
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) operates MiG-17 variants of the MiG-17F and MiG-17PF. Indonesian Air Force MiG aircraft were used in preparation for the Trikora operation in 1962 to seize Dutch New Guinea from the Netherlands. On June 29, 1962, an Air Force MiG-17 piloted by Captain (Pnb) Gunadi crashed at any time after taking off at Letvuan Airfield, P. Kei Kecil, Southeast Maluku, on a reconnaissance mission. Captain Gunadi died at the scene.
In addition, these planes were used intensively by the Indonesian Air Force Acrobatic Team in 1962 for airshows around Indonesia. The entire aircraft was retired in 1969 and has not been used since 1970.
