The Antonov An-225 Mriya was a strategic cargo transport aircraft designed and produced by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Soviet Union.

Originally developed in the 1980s as an expanded derivative of the Antonov An-124 freighter, it had the express objective of transporting Buran-class space buses. On December 21, 1988, the An-225 made its maiden flight; only a single copy was completed, although a second model with a slightly different configuration was partially built. After a brief period of use in support of the Soviet space program, the aircraft was taken out of operation and stored in the early 1990s. Approaching the end of the century, it was decided to reform the An-225 and reintroduce it for commercial operations, transporting loads of unique sizes to Antonov. Several disclosures were made about the possible completion of the second model, however, its construction remained largely paralyzed due to lack of funding. In 2009, it was reported that the aircraft had been brought to 60-70% completion.
