McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II (Luftwaffe Holloman AFB)
Originally designed in the late 1950s as an all weather interceptor for the U.S. Navy, the USAF first adopted the F-4 in the same role. It quickly became a Jack-of-All-Trades as a multi-role fighter-bomber and more than 5,000 were built for 12 air forces (including RAF, Israel, Luftwaffe, Iran, Egypt, etc.). It was extremely high performance, capable of Mach 2.2, but could also carry a 12,000 lb bomb load. Brig Gen Robin Olds and his Wolfpack set up a classic ambush operation when they coaxed North Vietnam's MiG-21s into the air, destroying 7 without a loss during Operation Bolo. Truly a supersonic all-weather fighter-bomber, mostly bomber! This one represents a Luftwaffe F-4E stationed at Holloman AFB up until 2013. The New Mexican desert offered much better weather than Europe. VTOL adjusts pitch trim. Use nose up trim (slider halfway down) for takeoff and approaching to land. It can actually land hands off if set correctly! Action group 1 jettisons the wing tanks, 2 jettisons the centerline tank. Enjoy, upvote and comment!
