Named the trident because of the iconic tri-engine layout, the trident was a navy jet prototype. It was armed with cannons, rockets, and boms. Its main purpose was to fly out and hit land targets from a carrier. Due to dangerous handling problems, plans were scrapped and this prototype remains the only trident in existance.
