The Mercator was developed in the late 30's by Scafat Aircraft, and was designed for long range patrols over the Dreisian-controlled part of the ocean. Since said part was a very large one (pretty much the whole north of the Atlantic), very long range was needed. The flying boat also was used to be used as a scout for fleets, since the Dreisian Navy didnt deploy many radar-equipped vessels until late 1942.

For achieving said expectations, the plane used the most efficienct engines available at the time - the know Tinneron T.VI series, producing 900hp with its nine cylinders radially mounted. This engine also equipped most of the long range aircraft the Dreisian military had, and also equipped most fighters made before 1938.

As such, combined with the somewhat superior aerodynamics compared to aircraft of the time, and really high loads of fuel, the range was extended to more than 4000km.

The Mercator was known for having the most success on the trials, beating every similar aircraft at the time. Performance was deemed so good that the pre-production aircraft ended up being mass produced.

Service

The Mercator was first deployed in combat in 1945, during the Dreisian-American war, but didnt do much since the war was mainly on land. The plane did much more service for the Dreisian Coast Guard, being the main search and rescue vehicle up to the 1970's, saving many lifes.

The plane ended up having much more service during 1947, when a failed Dreisian spy mission ended up with a naval war between Trislandia and Dreisia.

It is still used today as a firefighter aircraft.
