Project Triton: The FH-1 Triton Fighter/Interceptor
In response to Cold War threats, the U.S. Navy launched Project Triton in the early 1950s, aiming to develop the FH-1 Triton, a revolutionary amphibious fighter/interceptor. Led by aeronautical engineer Dr. Evelyn Carter, Project Triton focused on creating an aircraft capable of deploying directly from water surfaces, providing the U.S. with a flexible, rapid-response asset.
Design and Performance:
Accepted into service in 1952, the FH-1 Triton operated from mini-carriers equipped with cranes that lowered the aircraft into the water for takeoff. Weighing 15 tons, the Triton featured a thrust-to-weight ratio of 0.77, with a wing loading of 180 kg/m², giving it an excellent rate-fighting capability. Its hull design facilitated smooth water-to-air transitions, and its powerful jet propulsion system ensured swift acceleration and maneuverability.
Armament and Capabilities:
Armed with four 20mm cannons firing at 1,500 rounds per minute, the Triton was guided by a radar gun sight. The guns, converging at 550 meters with 500 rounds each, made the Triton a formidable opponent. Early ejection seats provided added pilot safety, and folding wings simplified storage on compact carriers.
The FH-1 Triton quickly became integral to the Navy’s rapid-response force, showcasing American ingenuity and strategic innovation during a tense global era.

I wonder how I'll mount missiles for the newer variants.... I mean the center fuselage is pretty empty..... So maybe an Internal weapons bay facing up, Storing up to 4 aim-9 missiles? Maybe maybe.
Looks like it's from the 2500s..
