Messerschmidt Me262 (German: MesserschmittMe 262"Schwalbe ") is a jet aircraft manufactured by German Messerschmidt Aircraft Company for the German Air Force at the end of World War II. Me262 fighter was put into actual combat for the first time in the late summer of 1944, becoming the first jet fighter in the history of human aviation.
German pilots called Me-262 "Turbo", while allied forces called it "Stormbird". Although the lack of fuel failed to give full play to its performance advantages in the Me-262 War, German pilots shot down about 509 enemy planes and damaged 100 aircraft during World War II. Many revolutionary designs adopted by the aircraft have had a very significant impact on the development of postwar fighters.
