CH-49 Gyrodyne

This is an Autogyro (Aircraft using unpowered rotors to generate lift)

so there is no power at all for the two main rotors. It flies more like an airplane

CH-49 is a large gyrodyne/autogyro that can transport US Army troops and cargo. Since it is a gyrodyne, two main rotors are free rotating and have no power, but they create lift like a regular airplane wing.

Takeoff:

It flies more like an airplane; it needs a short runway to take off (VTOL up 75% and throttle to 100%, run and take off. The main rotor will act like a wing from a typical aircraft. Then reduce VTOL to 50% for level flight. You can use VTOL up and down to gain or reduce the altitude.

Landing

1) You can land like a regular airplane at a speed of 120-150 mph
2) OR, for a shorter landing;
Reduce the airspeed (throttle to 50% or less), nose up, VTOL 100%, and land like a helicopter.

  • No weapons added
  • 2 external drop tanks for extra fuel
  • counter measure
  • top speed 250 mph

Have fun!

    @atgxtg Thanks, good that I will teat the vibration dampers. I wasn't sure before.

    @WinsWings
    That would depend on the size of the rotors. I think a 4 rotor one with, say 400" rotor blades might just work. Oh, btw, if you increase the virbration damper on the rotors it won't shake.

    @atgxtg Thanks - I was thinking of building a large one with 4 rotors, but not modify this. and I guess In reality, it should be a much larger craft to have 4 rotors - let's say, something the size of a Mi-6 helicopter

    @WinsWings Ooh, I like this one. Have you considered giving it four rotors?

    @TalonPotato thanks, you will need a little practice but it is not as difficult as a regular helicopter. Enjoy!

    Wow, very cool... Takes some practice but when you learn with it it's pretty cool...
