Pilot’s notes: This prototype also proved to be extremely fast, although acceleration is comparatively slower. Aircraft reached program’s record-setting speeds in a dive (>675 mph). Wide and short wing enhances maneuverability but reduces retention at higher speeds. Wide chord and large control surfaces allow good maneuverability at high speed and altitude. Aircraft exhibits slight yaw instability, especially in aileron maneuvers. Gunnery stability also suffers as a result.
