The Yak-8X was created in response to German and Ukrainian bombers hitting Russian cities late in the Second Weltkrieg. The aging Tu-2 fighters (different plane from the Tu-2 in real life) could not reach the altitude of the Gotha bombers, so the dictator of Russia, Dimitry Kozmin, ordered that a new fighter be designed to fight back the Imperial German Luftwaffe (Kaiserliche Luftwaffe). While not many Yak-8's were constructed, the few that made it into operational service were deadly effective. After the collapse of the Russian Army, Germany seized all models of the type.
