One of the first turbojet aircraft built and flown in America, the XP-82 was designed to be an escort fighter for US bombers in Europe, though the Xp-82 was designd off of the dissapointing P-59 Airacomet, but the XP-82 never became a fighter and instead served as a ramjet test bed till 1947
