BAe-146 China Northwest flight 2119
About China Northwest Airlines Flight 2119:
At 14: 20 p.m. on July 23rd, 1993, a BAe146-300 regional aircraft (civil aviation registration number B-2716, production number E.3215) belonging to China Northwest Airlines made its maiden flight on December 5th, 1992, and was delivered to China Northwest Airlines. By the day of the incident, it was only half a year old, with a total flight of only 5,000. The plane plans to fly flight WH2119 from Yinchuan Xihuayuan Airport to Beijing Capital International Airport, with two crew members, three crew members and 108 passengers (including one British tourist and one French tourist). The flight was scheduled to take off at 14: 30. However, it was delayed for 10 minutes because of waiting for the last passenger to board the plane (Wang Xiaohai, the manager from Beijing Energy Electronics Technology Development Company, bought the last ticket at 14: 15 before take-off, and it was 14: 30 after passing the security check and rushing to the plane), and he left the apron and taxied to the starting point of the take-off runway at 14: 40. After getting permission from the tower to take off, the crew set the flap lever to the "take off" position, then set the take-off thrust of four engines, and the plane began to accelerate on the take-off runway.
Copilot: "80 knots"
Captain: "V1"
First officer: "VR"
Captain: "Lift the wheel" and then pull the joystick into your arms.
The front wheel then left the ground, but the main wheel did not leave the ground. At this time, it has slipped away for a distance of 1777 meters (the total length of the runway of Xihuayuan Airport is 2200 meters).
"Insufficient throttle, maximum gear".
It is impossible to rush to the speed of VR and give up taking off. Even if you give up, the distance of less than 500 meters is absolutely impossible for the plane to stop safely. The crew can only put all their eggs in one basket, blast the throttle to the maximum, and then pull the rod back desperately.
The plane accelerated to 140 knots and continued to slide forward for 400 meters. However, there is still no intention of leaving the ground. On the contrary, the elevation angle on the nose is increased because of the hard pull rod of the crew, which leads to heavy friction between the tail of the plane and the runway, and suddenly sparks fly everywhere. Because of the hard pull rod of the crew, the elevation angle on the nose increases, which leads to heavy friction between the tail of the aircraft and the runway.
The passengers in the cabin were horrified to find that the plane did not take off, but went straight to the end of the runway. Everyone was dumbfounded, and the flight crew had to sit in the flight attendant seat during the take-off stage, so they could not maintain the order of the cabin and appease the passengers' emotions. Of course, appeasement is useless. Until the plane flew to 2197 meters, the crew was still desperately pulling back the lever, trying to make the plane fly at the last minute. However, the plane has always "lost face", and continued to rush to the end of the runway with its nose up and its tail wiping the ground. Finally, Flight WH2119 B-2716 rushed out of the end of the runway at a high speed of 140 knots, then crossed the safety buffer zone of 60 meters and the lawn of 50 meters, and broke through two ditches and ridges. Finally, it broke through the barbed wire fence of the airport (with 16 concrete piles) and rushed into the swamp pond at the end of the runway (located 460 meters away from the end of the runway), then exploded and disintegrated. Because it fell into the pond, the plane did not catch fire. The time is 14: 41 pm. Of the 113 crew/crew members and passengers on board, 54 passengers and one crew/crew member were killed (except those who died in the explosion on the spot, most of them drowned in the pond because they could not get free in time with their seat belts on), and 58 people were injured.
Probably cause:
Afterwards, CAAC investigated the air crash, and the final investigation report pointed out that the crew of flight WH2119 was careless before taking off, and did not carry out the pre-take checklist procedure. Although the co-pilot Wu Huo set the flap control lever to the take-off position, the flap was not in place at all due to the short circuit, and the crew hastily carried out the take-off procedure without checking the position of the flap indicator. As a result, the plane took off without the flaps in place, resulting in the fuselage never leaving the ground, which eventually led to the second most serious first-class flight accident in the operation history of Northwest Airlines after the air crash of China Northwest Airlines Flight 2303.
