History

The Heinkel He 162 was a single-engine jet fighter developed by Germany at the end of World War II and was also called the "Volksjager" because it was intended to be boarded by ordinary citizens with simple flight training. Development began as an emergency fighter plan in 1944, aiming for lightweight and low-cost mass production with a wooden structure for strategic savings and a simple design for process savings and the use of adhesives. The engine was arranged to carry the BMW 003 jet engine on the fuselage, and the armament was designed to be equipped with either the Mg151 20mm machine gun or the Mk108 30mm machine gun at the bottom of the nose.

The first flight was on December 6, 1944, when the He162 V1 first flew, and there were problems such as poor adhesives and insufficient stability, but they were ignored as not fatal. The mass deployment of the He162 was not made in time at the end of the war, and the actual combat deployment was limited. By the end of the war, about 200 aircraft were completed, and there were more than 600 aircraft in production on the production line.
