Background
The 4000 was a single engine, low wing monoplane designed and built in 1941. The main job of the plane was Bomber interceptor and Bomber escort, and as such, heavy armament and a long range were the principal objective. The 4000 was found to have a lacking maneuverability that lead its use as a night fighter only in 1942. Sporting an all black livery, the CN (Combattimento Notturno, Night Fighting) version had a higher Kill to Death ratio than other night fighters due to its faster speed and armament. Four 20mm Mg 151 autocannons were mounted on the wings, accompanied by 4 12.7mm BREDA-SAFAT Machine guns.
