The Focke-Wulf 190 was perhaps Engineer Kurt Tank's greatest invention. It coild wipe out bombers, crack open the hardest tanks, bomb infrastructure, and provide close air support for the Wehrmacht. It used the ouststandingly compact BMW 801D 18 cylinder radial engine allowing for a small, powerful fighter. The unparalelled firepower that the '190 provided made it quite a formidable fighter. The radial engine and stubby wings made many pilots believe at first that it was an American or Russian fighter. The only aircraft truly capable of matching it was the P-51 Mustang towards the end of the war.
