[HMS]8x40mm Anti-aircraft(Bang Bang)gun
Also known as multiple bang cannons, this weapon is essentially a redesigned 2-pdr Mark II to adapt to the installation of octa. Mark VIII is the same as the previous weapon, but the new design does have an improved automatic mechanism. It is speculated that the reason why this old 2-pounder gun was selected as an air Defence weapon was that about 2 million were left during World War I.When it was in service in 1930, it was a very advanced weapon, but by 1939, the rapid improvement of the aircraft design made it outdated, because its muzzle speed was very low, no satisfactory fragmentation range, and no tracer bullets. Despite this, these guns were mass-produced during World War II, and the total production was twice the number of Bofors 40mm guns used by the Royal Navy.According to the naval registry, a total of 6,691 were manufactured in the United Kingdom, 12 of which were prototypes, and 843 were manufactured in Canada. During the period 1944-45, 219 Army versions were cancelled.Single-loaded guns and quadruple-loaded guns of small ships were also produced after 1935. During the war, single-loaded guns were widely used as equipment for coastal frigates. —————————Note 1: Mark V is different from Mark VI. Mark V has a heavier bracket and different shooting methods. Both are driven by an 11-horsepower motor. In 1939, an octave-loaded gun base equipped with an electric shock launcher was introduced, and Mark V and Mark VI were renamed Mark VA and Mark VIA. When initially equipped, these weapons lacked shields and were added during the war.Note 2: At the beginning of the war, the eight joints were mainly installed on battleships, battlecruisers, and some heavy cruisers. War-weary and the Royal Ark have four eight-packs. At the end of the war, King George Five Worlds had eight-packs, and Nelson and London-class also had six eight-packs.Note 3: A quadruplet gun base was designed for small ships from 1935 to 1936, and successfully tested on the HMS Crusader (H60) destro
