The vespa was created with data collected by the C-10 Calabrone design team as an attempt to one-up themselves and create the best high manoeuvrability, low cost racer they possibly could. One thing that was discovered whilst developing the craft was how unstable the vertical stabiliser would be if there was a yaw input, so it was simply removed. This means that while there are technically less control options for the craft, it can now resist forces over twice as strong as the original Calabrone’s frame could. This also allowed for the plane to have a far higher top speed of 330mph compared to 275mph. In other words, this things fast as hell.
