THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY

79 Years ago today, the most epic Naval battle in History took place near the true center of the Pacific Ocean around a tiny atoll known as MIDWAY. Posted here is one of the combatants..the USS ENTERPRISE.

USS Enterprise (CV-6) was a Yorktown-class carrier built for the United States Navy during the 1930s. She was the seventh U.S. Navy vessel of that name. Colloquially called "The Big E", she was the sixth aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. Launched in 1936, she was one of only three American carriers commissioned before World War II to survive the war (the others being Saratoga and Ranger). She participated in more major actions of the war against Japan than any other United States ship.

USS Enterprise's SBD Dauntless dive bombers are credited with sinking 3 of the 4 Japanese Aircraft that day. Here are two of the pilots that scored direct hits on the AKAGI, KAGA and HIRYU.

Norman Jack (Dusty) KLEISS

Dusty is credited with two direct hits on the KAGA and HIRYU from his Douglas SBD. Both hits were centered on the large Sun emblem painted near the bow of each ship.

Richard Halsey (Dick) BEST

Dick Best is the only SBD pilot that day to single handedly destroy the IJN AKAGI. While most of his air group pounced on the KAGA, Dick Best diverted himself and two wingman to attack the Japanese flagship. His single hit in the center of the deck ignited a firestorm in the hanger of the mighty vessel.

@TMach5 maybe with part count and the drag it just couldn't handle, I know what you mean, I made an aircraft carrier, its parts were like 400-500 and it wasn't bad, once I scaled it up the drag shot way up and I could barely even run it, I did try to get someone to help bring drag down and to make it function right (to slow and it leans so far) I wish I could have uploaded it.

Is this to scale? If it is then the ship is smaller than I expected. I think it might be half scale tho, wasn't it like 800ft long? Amazing looking ship nonetheless
