Future of Flight 2 Gyrocycle
Now, who ever said the future won't be dark??? This is an entry for Rohan's Future of Flight 2 challenge. Let's say things go a little bit wrong sometime soon, and a slight case of Nuclear war were to break out...instead of building grand, complex, expensive and difficult to maintain aircraft, the world turns to simplicity and effectiveness, valuing quantity over quality wherever necessary. Actually stuff this, just read this plot summary real quick. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0082694/. Back to reality, here's my entry. It's heavily based off the Gyrodyne RON Rotorcycle as it's a fairly apocalyptic looking machine in my mind, plus it was built as a "disposable aircrew extraction vehicle" so quality was clearly never a significant requirement. To use this one, hit activation group 1 and throttle up to around 40% to take off. The helipad supplied with it is also a fuel dump, so you can probably fly this until hell freezes over. Normal roll, pitch, yaw and throttle controls apply otherwise, but use too much throttle and the RCN will lose effectiveness. It is relatively difficult to control, but hey. That's the apocalypse for ya! Also credit goes to AeroEngineering for the LIFE CHANGING modded RCN out to the far left and right. As always, have fun :P

3,202 SirGorbachev@drdoom222 thanks for rating :D I've tried, but it's been difficult as they tend to roll over on takeoff. I haven't tried it with wings though...9.4 years ago

1,757 VanNateCan u make that thing that looks like a helicopter but has wings and a propeller on the front please?9.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachevAlso it looks like the link in the description didn't work, but the film I was trying to mention was indeed Mad Max 29.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachev@Paradigmatical thanks for the rating :D I explained in one of the comments why I named it as such. Because it's based off the Gyrodyne RON Rotorcycle, I thought I'd collaborate the 2 halves of that name to come up with "Gyro Cycle"9.4 years ago
-
50 ParadigmaticalIts well made but this isn't a gyro-cycle its just a light helicopter a gyro-cycle is a plane that uses free spinning helicopter blades for lift but normal plane engines for thrust9.4 years ago

3,202 SirGorbachev@PlanesOfOld tests so far have been promising I have to say. I've basically got a rotator to angle each rotor set at the exact same angle and a little distance apart. Also the rotors on one side point forward while those on the other side are rotated 90 degrees so they start off out of phase. So because one spins clockwise and the other anti-clockwise, they intermesh perfectly with every rotation9.4 years ago
-
43.9k PlanesOfOldAcctualy making a synchropter would be hard as there is no way to time the rotors and you will always get one accelerating faster than the other when rolling so they would collide.... @SirGorbachev9.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachev@PlanesOfOld will do :D9.4 years ago
-
43.9k PlanesOfOldI have made an autogyro before check it out, it's pretty easy to fly but it lands pretty hard @SirGorbachev9.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachev@PlanesOfOld that's the problem. I would only choose to make a traditional Bensen type Gyrocopter with a single main rotor set and pusher propellor. Make it a co-axial/tandem layout and you may as well go all the way and make it a helicopter. I'm working on a synchropter layout to see if making a replica of a German Flettner machine would be possible, but I'm unsure so far9.4 years ago
-
43.9k PlanesOfOldI made one they need a double rotor set and they need to be variable pitched and fully moveable with rotators @SirGorbachev9.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachev@PlanesofOld thanks for the rating! My naming of it is only based off the name of the real aircraft that inspired it. Here's what I mean https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrodyne_RON_Rotorcycle. I called it a "Gyrocycle" to kind of merge "Gyrodyne" with "Rotorcycle". Would have liked to have made a true Gyrocopter but it doesn't seem possible yet9.4 years ago
-
43.9k PlanesOfOldGyrocopters aren't powered tho they have a normal engine like a plane and rotors for wings9.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachev@Ctracerx2 well, time to raid some hostile factions for gas I suppose :P9.4 years ago
-
3,202 SirGorbachev@Rohan haha ok. I hope there's not something fundamentally wrong with this for everyone but me...I'll see if I can upload a Kamcord vid to show how it's supposed to work9.4 years ago

37.2k RohanI always do high. I'll try low in the morning. It's 2:42 here@SirGorbachev9.4 years ago

3,202 SirGorbachev@Rohan hmmm. Are you playing on low physics setting?9.4 years ago
