During a rough couple years in the late 20s, the new President of the Reformed United States needed a new extremely cost-effective means of transportation. Douglas, Lockheed, North American Aircraft, and even Curtiss-Wright turned down the opportunity because for them such a simple and cheap airframe wasn't suitable for the president. Sikorsky took the opportunity to prove themselves as a viable option even for presidential aircraft. Since Sikorsky showed everyone they would make an airplane even if it didn't bring them fame, hundreds of orders were placed even outside of the oval office. Because the T-3 Constitution was so cheap and efficient, within six months it was commonplace to see even business owners boarding T-3's in most airports. In fact it was so popular, production did not cease until well into the 1950s.
