The Boeing 707 is a four engine long-range jet transport aircraft developed by the American company Boeing. The Boeing 707 was the first Boeing jet airliner to enter service, and its prototype was named 367-80, featuring a swept down single wing design; The top of the swept back vertical tail is equipped with an antenna, and the horizontal tail is installed below. The prototype made its maiden flight on July 15, 1954. The initial model was the KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft developed for the US Air Force. With the approval of the US Air Force, the company successfully developed the Boeing 707 civilian airliner based on the KC-135 in 1957 and delivered it for use in 1958. The main types of Boeing 707 include 707-120, -220, -320, and -420. China's civil aviation has purchased 10 320C aircraft, which have also been converted into special aircraft. A total of 1010 Boeing 707s were ordered, and the production line was closed in 1991. The last military version was delivered in May 1992. The aircraft is equipped with four JT3D-7 turbofan engines, each with a thrust of 84.48 kN, or with a Pratt&Whitney JT3C turbojet engine. It has a cockpit crew of four and a maximum passenger capacity of 219.
The Boeing 707 was the first Boeing jet airliner to enter service, and its prototype was named 367-80, featuring a swept down single wing and swept down vertical tail design. This aircraft was manufactured for intercontinental travel and was capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. It was one of the jet airliners with lower operating costs at the time, which was also the main reason for its success. The success of the Boeing 707 enabled Boeing to take a leading position in the production of commercial aircraft, and based on this, developed the subsequent 7x7 series jet airliner.
The first commercial operation of the Boeing 707 was in 1959, with Pan American Airways as its first customer. The last civilian 707 was delivered in 1988, with a total production of 1010 aircraft. In addition, the Boeing 707 is also widely used for military purposes, such as the E-3, E-8, and KC-135, which are all modified from the 707. The production line was closed in 1991, and the last military model was delivered in May 1992.
