More than 20 years ago, when the first TCR first appeared in the professional first team, it triggered a lot of discussion and controversy. Because at that time, the TCR was completely different from any professional road racing model, which also made other teams doubt whether Team ONCE sponsored by Giant enjoyed an unfair advantage, and even invited the official staff of the International Cycling Federation (UCI) to determine whether the car was standardised.

Such problems and controversies are related to the geometric design of the frame, and the name of the car illustrates the key innovation - Total Compact Road (road vehicle compression frame design). As an Olympic gold medal bicycle designer - Mike Burrows, the frame of TCR is very different from the general road frame design that has been popular for decades at that time. Its special geometric shape is called the "compressed" frame, with an inclined upper tube from top to the seat tube.

The design of road vehicle compression frame is inspired by mountain bikes. The road vehicle compression frame created by Burrows in cooperation with Giant has many obvious advantages. Due to the tilt of the upper tube, there is a smaller front triangle, which is lighter and more rigid than the frame using the horizontal upper tube. At the same time, the rear triangle is also reduced to further reduce weight and improve kinetic energy transmission and efficiency.
