Arkhangelskiy BSh-MV
The idea actually belonged to Mozharovskiy-Venevidov, who called their project the Kombain (combine) because of its versatility. Because Arkhangelskiy became interested in their project, he increased their political power and got them a separate design office and factory for what became called the BSh-MV (armoured assaulter) and also KABV (combined artillery-bomber weapon). Tye whole emphasis on the BSh-MV project was to give tge pilot (the only occupant) the best possible view over the nose. Whereas the engine of the Il-2 Shturmovik blocked off the view at a downwards angle of 8 degrees, the BSh-MV gave the pilot a downwards view of 30 degrees (!!!). Armament would have been one Taubin 23mm cannon, four .30 cal ShKAS machine guns, four bombs, and 6 RS-82 unguided rockets. On the basis of written evidence, this aircraft would have been a better tank killer than the Ilyushin Il-2. The drawback was that when the Ilyushin machine suffered heavy attrition from German fighters, a backseater was put in. This would have been difficult to solve with the BSh-MV. AG 1-6 for the rockets.
