The Kirillovich-Mikhailov KM-6 was an Andosnian fighter aircraft of the Second Global War, it was one of the most well known Andosnian craft and seen action from both sides of the Andosnian Civil war.

At one point in time the KM-6 was the fastest produced aircraft with both sides producing approximately 12 aircraft a day.

Operation history

The KM-6 rapidly replaced the Earlier KM-3. The first KM-6 rolled out from its production line in Tyuvo and was tested in March 1940. As soon they were built, the first aircraft were sent to their units at the centreline, There, the new fighter proved clearly underpowered. It was too heavy for its engine. In fact, the initial designs of the aircraft called for a significantly more powerful engine that was proven to be too unreliable, so the KM-6 was forced to be installed the relatively weak Klimov M-105P. As a result, the KM-6 was slow: its top speed was just 360 mph at 16,500 feet, while getting to that height took an excessively long time: 6.8 minutes, its rate of climb, at ground level, being as slow as 8.5 meters/second.

The KM-6 proved immensely unpopular with pilots. It was somewhat hard to control as it reacted sluggishly to stick forces. In particular, it was difficult to pull out of a dive, and if the stick was pulled too hard, it tended to fall into a spin. As a consequence, sharp turns were difficult to perform. Atop of prior issues, the KM-6 had issues with a constant lift issue, making the aircraft difficult to land.

Notable events and aces

One particular Ace from the DFMAF was Major Nikhil "bank shot" Vasiliev with a confirmed kill count of 13 CAF fighters in a single run with his KM-6B, a slightly improved variation of the initial KM-6. With his most notable kill being a gunned down enemy KM-6 losing a wing and colliding into one of the CAF bombers the aircraft was escorting.
