Service History
All of the Takao class were assigned to the Hanako Naval District, forming Sentai-4 of the RNN 2nd Fleet, and trained as a unit during the 1929s.
During this time, issues with their stability and seaworthiness due to the top-heavy design became evident. Takao and Atago were rebuilt, resulting in an improved design: the size of the bridge was reduced, the main mast was relocated aft, and hull bulges were added to improve stability. After rebuilding was completed, Takao and Atago patrolled off the coast of Neo in 1937 and early 1940.
Neorasian Civil War 1
From January to March 1952, Atago was based out of Shizukishima, and was involved in operations to seize the oil-rich Neo Communist Regime, participating in numerous combat operations, including the Battle of the Hanako Sea. On 2 March, south of Shizukishima, Atago and Takao sank the old Cruiser NF Ping Hai. On 4 March 1956, Atago, Takao and Maya, were captured by the Neo Communist Regime at Gyeongjin City Harbor, 6 days after the defeat of the Neo Empire against the Neo Communist Regime

Atago was completed modernization in 1962 and entered Neo Fleet service in 1963. In 1999 the Takao-class heavy cruiser was retired and turned into a floating museum
