Buenaaas!
Today I bring you what I consider the best plane I’ve ever made so far — and this is the original version. I seriously love it; it’s the finest work I’ve done.
Can you support and recognize this humble creation? I’d truly appreciate any support this aircraft gets — I poured a lot of effort and dedication into it.
What is the P-40 Warhawk?
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was a single-engine, single-seat fighter aircraft with retractable landing gear, built by Curtiss-Wright. It entered service in the late 1930s and remained active well into the 1940s. It was armed with machine guns (up to six .50 caliber) and could carry light bombs. Its top speed was around 580 km/h (360 mph), which was decent at the beginning of WWII, but it quickly fell behind more advanced fighters like the P-51 Mustang or the German Bf 109.
History and Service
The Beginning:
The P-40 was developed as an evolution of the P-36 Hawk. It wasn’t designed from scratch — they used the P-36 airframe and equipped it with an Allison V-1710 engine. This made it cheaper and faster to produce.First Combat Use:
Although the U.S. didn’t enter the war until December 1941, the P-40 was already in action. It was used by the Chinese Air Force and the Flying Tigers, a volunteer squadron of American pilots who helped China fight Japan before the attack on Pearl Harbor.Flying Tigers:
This is the most iconic chapter. Their planes had shark mouths painted on the nose — an image that became legendary. These American pilots defended China and, despite being outnumbered and flying technically inferior planes, they managed to take down enemy aircraft with a lot of skill and clever tactics.North Africa & The Pacific:
The P-40 was also used by the Allies in desert campaigns like the Western Desert, where it was crucial in fighting against German and Italian forces. It also saw action in the South Pacific against Japan, though it struggled more there due to the agility of Japanese fighters like the Mitsubishi A6M Zero.Who Used It?
Besides the U.S., the Warhawk was flown by the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Soviet Union, and even Brazil. It became the most-produced combat aircraft by Curtiss, with over 13,700 units built.
Inspiration:
Honestly, Americans do amazing things.
Coming soon: A Japanese plane. Stay tuned. 👀
