HTMS Chang (III)

The latest HTMS Chang is a Type 071E amphibious transport dock, an export variant of China's Type 071 class. Ordered in 2019 from China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, it was launched in January 2023 and delivered to the Royal Thai Navy in April 2023. This vessel, with a full load displacement of 25,000 tons, measures 210 meters in length and 28 meters in beam. It is designed to support amphibious operations, act as a submarine tender, and assist in disaster relief efforts.

The name "Chang," meaning "elephant" in Thai, is also a tribute to Ko Chang (Elephant Island) in Trat Province, reflecting the Royal Thai Navy's tradition of naming landing ships and auxiliary vessels after Thai islands.
