The Salmson 2 was used as a Reconnaissance fighter during World War 1 and was manufactured by the French, while this replica here was used in the 1986 film" Gunbus", known outside of Europe as "Sky Bandits".
The Salmson replicas, which are actually highly modified Caudron C.270 'Luciole' aircraft, were originally built for a French TV movie called "L' Equipage", which was released in 1978, after appearing in the TV series 'Les Faucheurs de marguerites', the Salmsons were then shipped to England for the filming of Gunbus and were repainted as British aircraft.
One of the static non-flyable replicas was rescued from Coventry airport in 1992 and turned into a terrible mock-up of a Sopwith Strutter with the serial N5177 by the Macclesfield Historical Aviation Society and was later located on a front lawn for a charity event somewhere in Park Gate, Southampton.
It was then sold to someone who just left it in a field at Merstham, Redhill, where it remains to this day, rotting away.

@Mustang51 The reason why the landing gear looks so weird is because this is not an actual Salmson 2, but its actually a highly modified Caudron C.270, just like in the movie.
