UL-01 PuffDragon
Perfectly Part 103 compliant, possibly the most fun you can have in SimplePlanes, VR or not.
Thanks to several members of the community for the semistolen parts.
Lag can be reduced by removing the dragon stickers made by @Kerbango if necessary.
Design History:
I wanted to make a VR- capable ultralight of my own while incorporating UltraWings 2 into SimplePlanes. The UL-01 PuffDragon is my answer for that, given how few good ultralights are on VR. Since finding @Ku’s map, I thought of the EFI from UltraWings and thought, “Man, if I used that map, then that would be cool…” And as such, this Phantom-based ultralight came into being. For just about everything, the massScale is set to 0.2, since I felt that was an accurate weight. I used @jamesPLANESii‘s Top Rudder 103 Solo engine, several archaic subassemblies I had lying around, and a more sensible approach to invent my take on microaviation, which completely follows the FAA’s Part 103 requirements for ultralights.
Performance and Stuff:
Max speed: 56 mph
Stall: 22 mph
Takeoff: 30 mph
Best climb speed: 42 mph
Fuel capacity: 5 gal
Loaded weight: 242 lbs
Empty weight: 236 lbs.
Trim: Almost all the way positive, due the engine placement.
Brake is the stick B/Y button on Oculus (UltraWings 2 reference)
Notes:
- I had to use a text speed indicator due to the gauge being incorrect and only being able to record 200 mph, kind of overkill for an ultralight.
- I tested this thing on VR on an unlisted post before, so I knew what I needed to fix (my first time!)
- The prop takes quite a while to stop spinning.
- The max speed can vary even in IAS, seems to be a glitch as it doesn’t happen all the time, but especially at low physics when it happens, ~65 mph is possible. I’m not sure how to fix it, taking suggestions!
Have fun!
