Put into service in 1959, the Ba 447 Feuervogel (Firebird) was a German interceptor aircraft capable of speeds near Mach 2. Built primarily to deter high-speed, high-altitude bombers, the Ba 447 was most often armed with 6 fire-and-forget missiles, and 1 rotary cannon. The Feuervogel is considered a transitional design between second and third generation jet fighters.
