BACKSTORY

YM-1 is a wide-body supersonic civil airplane designed within "COTS" state tender. Naming the tender in English, the SLO (Department of Civil Transport, Siviili Liikenne Osasto) accentuated that they prefer to see SAS as a main contractor. However, Powell Dynamics expressed a desire to participate and started developing a new design. Despie SLOs expectations, SAS failed to fulfill all the requirements. Powell Dynamics finished their project and won the COTS tender. YM-1 is not allowed to fly to several airports, but it is in limited production an is used as a civil airliner or a private transport

SOME NOTES

YM-1 is about to be the fastest commercial airliner as it hit M=3.2 without afterburner once. However, its cruise speed is considered to be M=2.8

First prototype of YM-1 doesn't have canards and its elevators also perfomed as flaps. Later it was decided that canards with flat-bottomed airfoil could provide more lifting power

YM-1 is equipped with 2 parachutes to land on short runways (AG1)

YM-1 needs nearly 1km to take off
