Kaputski E01 Ogurets

975 FlyHigh  6.7 years ago

In 1956, Soviet engineers created a brand new plane type: the VTOSL (Vertical Take-Off and Sometimes Landing). The Kaputski Ogurets was made for civilian and military use. It could take off everywhere when the propellers were pointing up. However, the Ogurets was terrible in landing vertically, which was of course a Design Function and not a flaw, because Soviets dont make mistakes. When the propellers were placed in exactly the right position, the Ogurets was able to cruise horizontally. However, pilots had to guess which position this was since there was no way to check in which direction the props were pointing. This was of course a Design Function and not a flaw, because Soviets dont make mistakes. Its skis allowed the Ogurets to land on ice, however there were no brakes, so the plane would keep on rolling. This was of course a Design Function and not a flaw, because Soviets dont make mistakes. The planes were scrapped in 1963 because the plane was Too Succesful.

VTOL to rotate propellers. Do not turn the propellers all the way back, otherwise the propellers will hit the plane. This is of course a Design Function and not a flaw.
