X-97 JetLancer
Simple earlyish jet
Background: The F-97 JetLancer or Lancer was originally designed for use onboard carriers, but was quickly dropped as more advanced aircraft were already being produced by the time of its completion. Instead, the design was changed into a cheap, land based multirole jet for smaller air forces. It was exported to many nations, and saw the development of a less popular trainer variant. A Lancer gracefully streaking through the sky wasn’t an unusual sight in many smaller nations. It was also a distant ancestor of the more successful F-100.
The Lancer was loved, but more often hated, by those who flew it. It had a high accident rate, especially in air forces with low quality training, as the aircraft pitched down considerably on landing when the engines were producing little thrust. Many pilots lost their lives a mere hundred feet from their runways.
The aircraft is mine, but the design is a friend's. We made it quite a while ago during a 20 minute break between yard work. his original
