Fictional History: After the conclusion of the Cold War in 1948, The United States sold off war relics in favor of making room for Jet powered aircraft. Boeing was among one of the major groups who bought back these planes in bulk, converting them to passenger planes for profit in the civilian transit sector. Initial conversion models lacked good windows due to the centered wing placement, which was later solved by using “periscoping” windows. Being a stopgap solution, only 400 Boeing C-17A’s were built, and few survive to this day, as they were rapidly broken down for parts for newer planes like the Douglas DC-6 or jet aircraft.
