The Sportlight HA-X-1 HARP (High Altitude Research Platform) is a twin engine, twin hull, tandem-wing aircraft built by Sportlight Aircraft Inc for the purpose of performing high altitude experiments (primarily in the fields of fuel mixture and engine power). It first flew in 1940, and was used for various high altitude research projects, while undergoing various modifications, until 1975, when a control surface malfunction caused the plane to crash shortly after take-off. While the pilot and crew survived, the plane was damaged beyond repair.
