The Mosquito PR.Mk.XVI was a research version of the beloved wooden mosquito. The one created here belongs to 325th Photo Wing based at RAF Watton, in 1945. First flown in July 1943, the Mosquito PR.Mk.XVI was a high-altitude photo-reconaissance variant of the famous de Havilland warplane with two-stage merlins and a pressurized cabin. One aircraft was fitted with Carrier Deck landing gear. Production of the PR.Mk.XVI ran to 402 aircraft, only six of which were lost in operations. About 80 PR.Mk.XVI’s were issued to the USAAF, like this one here.
