Medium Tank T61 (Apaosha)
The Medium Tank Type 61 is a family of main battle tanks built by the Apaosha firm of the Egeria military-industrial complex derived from the STC-90 chassis. It serves frontline service with most forces.
Development
After Sumeru was granted the STC- design by Rukkhadevata industries based on the STC-65 chassis, the Egeria concern submitted a replacement STC (standardized chassis) - design. The T61A1 design was accepted in 1993 featuring new features with layout and module commonality and improvement over the Rukkha's STC. The given variant included an improved Rukkha 120/78 main gun firing HEAT/APFSDS rounds and an Amrita 20 mm fast-firing autocannon. It was fitted with Vanguard Mk. I concave resctive armour which improved its survivability against explosive rounds and shells.
